Diesel Mechanic

About the position

A Diesel Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. This includes inspecting and troubleshooting diesel engines, ensuring that all mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems are operating correctly, and providing preventive maintenance to ensure optimal performance and safety.

Requirements:

• Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic or in a similar role.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and vehicle/engine maintenance.
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
• Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. (Detailed completion of job cards)
• Own tools required in good working condition.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Relevant certification or formal training in diesel mechanics (Trade Tested)
• Experience with specific types of diesel-powered vehicles or machinery (e.g., trucks, buses, heavy equipment and cranes).
• Valid driver's license (and any additional licenses, such as for operating specialized vehicles).
• Forklift or crane operation certification (if required for the job) will be beneficial

Working Conditions:
This role may involve working in a workshop environment, sometimes in harsh weather or conditions and working on site for extended periods away from home.
The work can involve heavy lifting, bending, and physical labour.
Diesel Mechanics may work in shifts or on-call, depending on business needs
