About the position
DevOps/Cloud Engineer
Duration: 6 Months (contract)
Location: Rosebank, Gauteng (hybrid model)
Role purpose
We are seeking an experienced DevOps/Cloud Engineer to own the entire cloud infrastructure across multiple environments.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing the CI/CD pipeline, infrastructure as code, environment configuration, database provisioning, and monitoring. They will lead deployment strategies and provides on-call support during critical production phases.
This role requires an individual who is comfortable operating in complex environments with a steep learning curve and who can work effectively across development, support, and operational responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and set up multiple cloud environments (development, testing, production)
- Configure network isolation, security groups, and access controls
- Set up database instances with backup and disaster recovery procedures
- Implement infrastructure as code for repeatability and version control
- Design and build CI/CD pipeline: code commit to automated deployment
- Set up containerization: Docker, image registry, container orchestration
- Implement automated deployment and release procedures
- Set up secrets management for credentials and sensitive data
- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting infrastructure
- Manage SSL/TLS certificates and API security
- Collaborate with client infrastructure teams on account and security management
- Plan and execute deployment strategy across regions
- Lead production go-live activities
- Provide hypercare on-call support post-launch
- Document operational runbooks and procedures
- Identify cost optimization opportunities
Technologies and Skills Required - Mandatory
- Minimum 5 years' experience in AWS with expert knowledge: compute, databases, networking, security services, Infrastructure as Code: Terraform or CloudFormation
- Docker and container orchestration
- CI/CD pipeline design: CodePipeline, Jenkins, or GitLab CI
- Linux and Windows system administration
- Database administration: SQL Server, backup/recovery
- Bash and PowerShell scripting for automation
- Monitoring and observability tools
- Security best practices: encryption, IAM, network segmentation
- Performance tuning and cost optimization
- Git version control for infrastructure code
- Troubleshooting and incident response

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field
- Relevant cloud or software engineering certifications will be advantageous
- AWS certifications will be beneficial
