About the position
A key role has opened for a Deputy Site Manager to oversee the operations and infrastructure management of a critical site. This position is ideal for an experienced engineering professional with a strong background in infrastructure development, operations, and team management. You will be responsible for ensuring the availability, reliability, and safety of all site systems while managing teams, budgets, and contractors.
Key Responsibilities (amongst others):
- Support the Site Manager in coordinating day-to-day activities of the operational team
- Manage overlapping constraints and jurisdictions for construction and operations on site
- Interact with multidisciplinary teams to achieve common goals
- Supervise maintenance teams to ensure proper execution of tasks
- Compile monthly reports covering plant performance, breakdowns, and Health & Safety issues
- Develop training programs, operational procedures, and Quality Management documentation
- Ensure maintenance of buildings, roads, security, and infrastructure supporting operations
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and participate in relevant committees
- Prepare annual departmental budgets, review bi-annually, and control monthly expenditure
- Manage contractors in line with service level agreements
- Ensure adequate staffing through recruitment and talent development initiatives
- Appointed as a Competent Person for Supervision of Machinery in terms of relevant legislation
Minimum Requirements
Qualification(s) required:
- National Diploma (NQF level 6) in Engineering
- Professional registration with Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)
- Eligibility for Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) in mechanical/electrical
- Management Qualification (advantageous)
Experience:
- 10 years' Proven hands-on experience (post qualification) in infrastructure development, operations, and maintenance, including:
- Roads
- Buildings
- Electrical/mechanical systems
- HVAC
- Water systems
- Medium voltage equipment and applicable switching procedures
- Proven experience in infrastructure operations & maintenance environment of the similar equipment (Roads, Buildings, Two Way Radio Systems, Fibre, Electrical & mechanical systems, HVAC, Borehole water systems, etc.)
- Minimum 5 years management or supervisory experience
Knowledge and Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of South African National Standards (SANS) for power supply and distribution
- Good understanding of South African construction industry and government legislation (PFMA, PPPFA, OHSA, Environmental Management Act, etc.)
- Knowledge of public sector supply chain management legislation and the implementation thereof
- Building Management System (BMS) operations and maintenance
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Occupational Health & Safety regulations and relevant ISO standards
- Ability to plan, prioritize, manage resources, schedules, and budgets effectively
- Attention to detail and excellent report-writing skills
