We are currently recruiting for a Deputy Director - Medical Research on behalf of a leading organisation within the pharmaceutical sector. This is a pivotal role for a Specialist Medical Doctor to shape and oversee all aspects of clinical research and medical affairs, driving the development of safe, effective, and cutting-edge pharmaceutical products. ?? Role Overview: As the Deputy Director of Medical Research, you will lead the strategic design and execution of Phase I-IV clinical trials, ensure regulatory compliance, and guide cross-functional teams toward scientific excellence. You will provide expert clinical oversight across multiple drug development projects, while actively engaging with key stakeholders such as KOLs, investigators, and academic partners. ?? Key Responsibilities: - Clinical Trial Leadership: Design and execute Phase I-IV trials; review protocols and development plans.- Medical Oversight: Offer expert input into drug development and act as a medical lead across project teams.- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure trials adhere to GCP, ICH, and SAHPRA requirements.- Scientific Innovation: Drive medical research aligned with therapeutic strategies and assess new opportunities.- Team Collaboration: Work alongside researchers, clinical ops, and writers in a high-performance environment.- Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the company in academic, scientific, and KOL settings.- Data Review & Interpretation: Analyse clinical data for internal decision-making and external publication.- Cross-Functional Integration: Partner with departments like Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, and Marketing. ?? Minimum Requirements: - Medical Degree (MBChB) with relevant Specialist qualifications.- Proven experience in clinical research and execution of clinical trials.- Pharmaceutical industry background is preferred.- Working experience within an R&D Pharma environment - e.g. NPD- Exposure to AI in research is highly desirable.- Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and cross-functional communication skills.- Commitment to high ethical standards and patient safety. ?? Additional Details: - Office-based in Johannesburg with business travel as required.- Flexibility to work outside standard hours when required.- Must possess a valid driver's license and own transport.
