About the position
Purpose of the Post (12 Months Contract)
To support and advance research, development and innovation (RDI) in industrial and environmental biotechnology. The role focuses on enabling biological processes for the production of goods and services, while strengthening water and wastewater management practices in support of the green economy.
Key Responsibilities
Development of the Bioeconomy (25%)
Conceptualise, develop and implement RDI instruments for industrial and environmental bioeconomy sectors
- Promote awareness and public understanding of the bioeconomy
- Engage with stakeholders across industry, academia, government and agencies
Draft business cases, investment proposals and Terms of Reference
RDI Translation and Investment Support (25%)
Facilitate investment into priority areas such as bioproducts, bio-based chemicals, biomaterials, bioenergy and bioremediation
- Drive commercialisation and knowledge transfer initiatives
- Manage contracts and oversee funded projects
Develop partnerships with institutions such as research councils and universities
Planning and Performance Monitoring (20%)
Contribute to the development of Annual Performance Plans (APP), Operational Plans (OP) and strategic plans
- Monitor and report on programme performance
Ensure achievement of directorate targets
International Cooperation (15%)
Build and maintain networks with local and international stakeholders
- Support strategic partnerships within the bioeconomy
Prepare briefing notes, reports and documentation for international engagements
Strategic Advisory and Administrative Support (15%)
Provide expert input on industrial and environmental biotechnology matters
- Draft submissions, cabinet memoranda and briefing documents
- Support knowledge management and information dissemination
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
- NQF Level 6 qualification in Life Sciences or Technology Management
- A Bachelor's degree will be an added advantage
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in the industrial biotechnology sector

- Industrial and environmental biotechnology landscape

- Public Finance Management Act (PFMA) and Public Service Regulations
