About the position

Editing and proofreading of official documents to ensure grammatical correctness, style, logic and consistency to guarantee professional results and maintain the image of the company.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Editing support to Chief Directorate: Science Communication (media invites, media releases, articles, etc.):

  • Edit documents for language, consistency, logical flow, style (as per the Department's Style Guide) and presentation of documents, rewriting and shortening text when required, and ensuring an appropriate tone.
  • Edited media invitations and releases, articles, etc.
  • Verify the correctness of references to legislation, people, organizations and documents in text.
  • Reference correctly indicated
  • Liaise with the writers of documents to clarify meaning.
  • Confirmed queries raised with writers

Editing support in respect of communications to external stakeholders (letters, invitations, Cabinet Memos, Parliamentary Questions, etc.):

  • Edit documents for language, consistency, logical flow, style (as per the Department's Style Guide) and presentation of documents, rewriting and shortening text when required, and ensuring an appropriate tone.
  • Edited communications to external stakeholders, e.g. letters, invitations, Cabinet Memos, Parliamentary Questions.
  • Verify the correctness of references to legislation, people, organizations and documents in text.
  • Reference correctly indicated.
  • Liaise with the writers of documents to clarify meaning.
  • Confirmed queries raised with writers.

Editing support in respect of internal documents (Exco and Opco minutes, submissions to DG and Minister, HR:

  • Edit documents for language, consistency, logical flow, style (as per the Department's Style Guide) and presentation of documents, rewriting and shortening text when required, and ensuring an appropriate tone.
  • Edited internal documents, e.g. Exco and Opco minutes, submissions to DG and Minister, HR and Finance documents:
  • Verify the correctness of references to legislation, people, organizations and documents in text.
  • Reference correctly indicated
  • Liaise with the writers of documents to clarify meaning.
  • Confirmed queries raised with writers

Editing support in respect of publications (Annual Report, APP, strategies, reports, policy advice, conference booklets):

  • Edit documents for language, consistency, logical flow, style (as per the Department's Style Guide) and presentation of documents, rewriting and shortening text when required, and ensuring an appropriate tone.
  • Edited publications, e.g. Annual Report, APP, strategies, reports, policy advice, conference booklets
  • Verify the correctness of references to legislation, people, organizations and documents in text.
  • Reference correctly indicated.
  • Liaise with the writers of documents to clarify meaning.
  • Confirmed queries raised with writers.

 
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Experience and Qualifications:


  • Minimum 3 years' experience in editing.
  • A tertiary qualification at NQF 6 preferably in Languages with English as a major
