Decontamination Worker at NRF National Research Foundation

About the position

Postion Summary:
This role plays an integral role in the occupational safety sphere and radiation protection realm by ensuring that staff and the environment are protected from the adverse effects of radiation, radioactive contamination, as well as supporting Nuclear medicine production in line with the appropriate standard.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cleaning and decontamination of controlled areas, laboratories and cleanrooms to meet applicable standardsCleaning and decontamination of equipmentSweeping, scrubbing, waxing, and/or polishing floors, using brooms, mops, and/or powered scrubbing and waxing machines in controlled radiation areas
• Keeping storage areas clean and tidyConditioning radwaste in line with appropriate standardOptimal use and handling of equipment and materialsAny other general duties associated with the role

Minimum Qualification:

• Grade 10 / National Certificate / Vocational 2 / N1 / NQF 2

Minimum Experience:

• 2-2 years

• Grade 12 preferably

Experience:

• 2 years’ experience in general housekeeping in an industrial setting 2 years’ experience handling hazardous material handlingRadioactive material handlingContamination control and decontamination practicesWorking under cGMP conditions and Radiation Protection principlesSafe use of industrial cleaning materials and equipment

Knowledge:

• Ability to use Industrial laundry machinesAbility to use Industrial floor scrubber and vacuum machineAbility to safely use Industrial grade chemicalsKnowledge and experience of handling radioactive/hazardous material
