Our client is seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Junior Debtors Clerk to join their Finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking to grow their career in debtors and credit control. The successful candidate will assist with managing customer accounts, collections, debtor reconciliations, and credit administration while ensuring healthy cash flow and maintaining excellent customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and accurately update the debtors ledger.
- Allocate customer payments daily.
- Process credit notes, adjustments, and account reconciliations.
- Prepare and distribute monthly customer statements.
- Follow up on overdue accounts via telephone and email.
- Ensure collections are in line with agreed credit terms.
- Negotiate payment arrangements where necessary and escalate problematic accounts to management.
- Review debtor age analysis and monitor overdue accounts.
- Recommend accounts to be placed on hold where required.
- Administer credit insurance processes, including maintaining credit limits and submitting required documentation.
- Prepare weekly and monthly debtors reports.
- Handle customer account queries professionally and efficiently.
- Work closely with Sales and Management to resolve payment issues.
- Ensure compliance with company credit policies and procedures.
- Assist in reducing bad debts and improving cash flow.
Minimum Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12) is essential.
- Certificate or Diploma in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Credit Management, or Debtors Control will be advantageous.
- 3–5 years' experience as a Debtors Clerk or Credit Controller.
- Strong collections and debtor account management experience.
- Experience managing aged debtor books.
- Experience working with credit insurers such as CGIC will be advantageous.
- Experience within the timber, board, hardware, building materials, or related industry will be advantageous.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Experience using Sage or a similar ERP/accounting system.
- Applicants MUST currently reside in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
