About the position

A dynamic financial services institution supporting South Africa's agricultural sector is seeking an Agricultural Specialist: Workout & Restructuring. The organisation focuses on enabling farmers and agri-businesses to thrive by providing innovative financial solutions, advisory services, and risk management support.

The organisation plays a critical role in ensuring the sustainability and growth of agriculture in South Africa, assisting both established commercial farmers and emerging agripreneurs to access the resources needed to operate successfully in a competitive environment.

Role Purpose

The Agricultural Specialist will provide expert guidance and solutions for distressed agricultural clients, implementing turnaround strategies to protect the institution's financial interests. This is a hands-on role requiring deep financial analysis, negotiation skills, and expertise in business restructuring within the agricultural sector.

Key Responsibilities

1?? Restructuring & Portfolio Management

  • Take ownership of a portfolio of high-risk agricultural clients requiring intervention.
  • Conduct detailed diagnostic assessments and preliminary due diligence.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Credit, Legal, and Collections teams.
  • Develop strategies to stabilise and restructure client operations for long-term viability.

2?? Implement Restructuring Plans

  • Lead the implementation of approved turnaround strategies.
  • Negotiate restructuring agreements while protecting organisational interests.
  • Work with Legal to draft and finalise loan agreements, equity arrangements, and security documentation.
  • Ensure smooth execution of all client agreements.

3?? Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Track the performance of restructured accounts, ensuring adherence to turnaround plans.
  • Analyse client performance and address any variances with actionable solutions.
  • Prepare regular updates for governance structures such as EXCO, Credit Committees, and Board.
  • Provide relevant data to Finance for impairment assessments.

4?? Advisory & Stakeholder Support

  • Advise Banking and Collections teams on potential clients needing workout interventions.
  • Participate in policy reviews where restructuring expertise is required.
  • Represent the organisation in internal and external forums on turnaround matters.

5?? Reporting & Record Management

  • Maintain accurate client records in line with organisational standards.
  • Prepare governance and management reports.
  • Ensure systems are updated and provide trend reporting on distressed accounts.
  • Respond to audit findings and implement corrective actions.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • BCom in Business, Agriculture, Finance, or related field.

Experience (3-5 years):

  • Banking or finance deal structuring
  • Exposure to primary agriculture and agribusiness financing
  • Structured trade and commodity finance
  • Strong credit and financial analysis background
  • Experience in business turnaround planning and evaluation
  • Managing distressed client portfolios
