Data Statistician

About the position

As a Data Analyst/Statistician, you'll play a key role in supporting data-driven initiatives across local government programs. You will contribute to flagship projects such as the Municipal Capabilities Assessment, the Municipal Capabilities Outcomes Monitoring Tool, and other strategic tools aimed at improving public service delivery.
You'll dive deep into data - collecting, analyzing, visualizing, and translating complex datasets into actionable intelligence. Your insights will directly influence how strategies are developed and implemented at national, provincial, and local levels.

Key Responsibilities

• Support data collection, processing, and analysis across multiple projects and tools.
• Develop clear, impactful reports, dashboards, and municipal socio-economic profiles.
• Use statistical methods to identify trends, derive insights, and support evidence-based planning.
• Coordinate the development and enhancement of internal analytics platforms.
• Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Contribute to capacity building through information dissemination and knowledge sharing.
• Support collaboration with data providers, municipal officials, and internal teams.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Statistics, Data Science, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of proven experience in data analytics or statistical research.
• Proficient in tools such as Excel, SPSS, R, Python, and data visualization software.
• Solid understanding of local government operations and public sector data.
• Strong skills in data cleaning, transformation, analysis, and interpretation.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills - especially in presenting complex information simply and effectively.
