About the position
Psybergate is an IT company that builds bespoke software solutions and provides highly skilled resources to its clients.
We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our client in the insurance environment based in Sandton on a permanent basis.
What you will be doing:
- Leverage data to drive insights, inform decision-making, and enhance life and non-life insurance operations
- Analyse complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and correlations
- Generate and test hypotheses, providing actionable insights to the business
- Develop, implement, and validate machine learning models, including AI and GenAI solutions
- Build and operationalise predictive and propensity models
- Design and develop end-to-end data science solutions using Azure, Docker, and FastAPI
- Participate in the analysis, design, development, troubleshooting, and support of reporting and analytics platforms
- Develop BI solutions using SQL, ETL processes, and Microsoft BI Stack tools (Power BI)
- Build scalable data pipelines and infrastructure for large volumes of structured and unstructured data
- Collaborate with actuaries, underwriters, and cross-functional teams to integrate data solutions into business processes
- Automate recurring processes and implement monitoring mechanisms
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Informatics, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Information Technology
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a Data Scientist or similar role
- Experience within the financial services or insurance industry is advantageous
- Strong programming skills in Python, R, C++, C#, or Java (critical)
- Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL (critical)
- Hands-on experience with:
- Power BI (essential)
- Azure Data Factory (essential)
- Azure Synapse Analytics (critical)
- Experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn
- Experience with big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka) and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
- Strong understanding of statistical analysis, data modelling, and experimental design
- Ability to develop, maintain, and explain predictive models
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to translate business requirements into actionable insights
- Strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure
