Data Entry Clerk

About the position

An established company in the shipping and logistics industry is seeking an experienced Entry Clerk to join its Durban-based team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and processing customs entries, facilitating cargo clearance and ensuring compliance with customs regulations. We are looking for a detail-oriented individual with solid clearing and forwarding experience who can work accurately in a deadline-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, capture and submit customs entries and declarations (SAD500).
• Ensure accurate tariff classification and customs duty calculations.
• Liaise with SARS, shipping lines, clients and relevant stakeholders to facilitate cargo clearance.
• Coordinate cargo releases and resolve customs-related queries.
• Process import and export documentation for sea and air freight.
• Ensure compliance with customs legislation, regulations and procedures.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure timely processing of entries.

Minimum Requirements

• 2-3 years' experience as an Entry Clerk within the clearing and forwarding industry.
• Experience with SARS eFiling, EDI, SHIPS and CCS systems.
• Sound knowledge of customs declarations (SAD500), tariff classification and duty calculations.
• Good understanding of import and export procedures, including sea and air freight.
• Valid customs accreditation.
• Strong computer literacy and attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks and meet strict deadlines.
