About the position

We are seeking an experienced and highly professional Data Center Operations Manager for a 12 month fixed-term contract to oversee and manage critical ICT infrastructure projects.


The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the seamless operation, stability, and scalability of data center environments while driving the successful delivery of complex infrastructure initiatives. This role demands a strategic thinker with hands-on technical expertise, exceptional leadership skills, and a deep understanding of data center operations, infrastructure planning, and industry compliance standards.

What you’ll do:



  • Managing the onsite Managed Services teams, specifically in Centurion.

  • Direct the relevant internally assigned resources and equipment/service vendors as required

  • Report on Progress to the Operations Management Team and Owners (with recommendations for Risk Management and Issue Resolution) and to the Implementation Manager where relevant

  • Manage Risks for which s/he is identified as the Risk owner

  • Resolve Issues for which s/he is identified as the Issue Owner

  • Facilitate the Work Order Request process (identification, assessment, cost and recommendation)

  • Approve (or Reject) Work Order Requests that are within his/her Delegation of Authority

  • Provide recommendations to the Project Owner as to Site Readiness and work with the facility Owner to develop and implement plans for the adoption of deliverables by the business

  • Ensure that facility reviews are carried out after as per schedule and that lessons learned are fed back into the operations area and disseminated to those in MTN who need to know

  • Manage and coordinate all meetings both internally and externally

  • Manage and control operations timelines including forecasting with the relevant stakeholders where applicable

  • Identifying and resolving issues or irregularities encountered during the testing of new equipment.

  •  Coordinating with construction, electrical, and mechanical teams to ensure a seamless testing process.

  • Verifying that the data center’s infrastructure is robust and capable of handling potential disruptions.

  • Reviewing and understanding the data center design plans, specifications, and scopes of work.

  • Overseeing the local Data Center Infrastructure technical team, where applicable.

  • Managing the daily supervision of maintenance and support contractors for infrastructure, including building, electrical, mechanical, and control systems.

  • Overseeing routine corrective and preventive maintenance of infrastructure.

  • Assisting in the preparation of Root Cause Analysis reports for major Data Center Infrastructure incidents.

  • Providing regular reports on cooling and power capacity management.

  • Supervising and ensuring quality control of outsourced infrastructure management contractors.

  • Planning preventive maintenance for critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure, including HVAC, UPS systems, generators, fire systems, and the Building Management System (BMS).

  • Diagnosing and resolving facility and rack-level issues within internal Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

  • Utilizing internal management systems to oversee building workflows and spare part inventory.

  • Ensuring full compliance with physical security procedures and policies.

  • Documenting and drafting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs).

  • Reviewing and approving method statements involving third-party vendors.


Your expertise:



  • 5 years’ experience in data centres operations, with at least 2 years in management role.

  • Be very familiar and specific experience with end-to-end management of the following infrastructure projects and programs:


    • Understanding of Data Center Facilities at an expert would be an advantage.

    • Understanding on high level the process of integration of new nodes e.g. obtaining floor space, power, HW installation, SW installation, integration to peripheral systems, configuration, implementation, testing, PPM, Corrective Maintenance, etc.



Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline for managing the Data Centres

  • Preferred qualification:

    • Data Centre-Specific Certification

    • Certified Data Centre Professional (CDCP)

    • Certified Data Centre Specialist (CDCS)

    • Certified Data Centre Expert (CDCE)

    • Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Specialist (ATS) or Accredited Tier Designer (ATD)
