About the position

Postion Summary:
iThemba LABS is seeking an experienced electronics technician for its Accelerator Operations and Technical Support department.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operation of the cyclotron, changing beam energy, maintain beam quality and intensity
• Monitor electronic systems and sub-systems (analogue, power supplies, vacuum systems, cooling systems, RF amplifiers, beam diagnostics) Diagnose electronics problems/faults or mechanical faults and repair self if possible, contact backup personnel if problem is too specialised Maintain documentation on beam information and statistics Transfer of information to follow-up shift operators

Minimum Qualification:

• Bachelors Degree / Advanced Diploma / NQF 7

Minimum Experience:

• 3-3 years

• B
• Tech in Electronics / Electrical / Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent, or B
• Sc (Physics)

Experience:

• A minimum of 3 years’ relevant working knowledge Maintenance and/or design of mechanical/electronic systems Interfacing of electronics Programming and/or simulation codes Intermediate to advanced knowledge of electronics in a Nuclear Facility

Knowledge:

• Familiarity with simulation tools Basic understanding of radiation safety (advantageous) Familiarity with concepts such as vacuum, beam diagnostics, RF, etc
