Customs and Logistics Manager

Role Overview
A leading organisation is seeking an experienced Customs and Logistics Manager to manage and oversee import and export operations across multiple African countries. The role requires deep expertise in customs clearance, regulatory compliance, and cross-border logistics, particularly within complex African trade environments.
This is a senior role requiring strategic oversight, strong financial acumen, and hands-on operational leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage customs clearance for locomotives, wagons, and spare parts, ensuring full compliance and minimal delays
- Oversee logistics operations, including transportation, dispatch, and delivery of locomotive spare parts
- Monitor and implement changes in customs regulations across multiple African jurisdictions
- Manage and control costs related to customs clearance and logistics, identifying opportunities for cost optimisation
- Lead and manage staff involved in import and export operations
- Track and analyse logistics performance metrics, driving continuous improvement and operational efficiency
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum 10 years' experience in customs regulations and procedures across African countries, including:
South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, DRC, Angola, Mozambique, and Namibia - Strong knowledge of customs compliance, risk management, and customs declaration processes
- Proven experience working with SAD 500 and related customs documentation
- Solid understanding of trade agreements and Incoterms
- Strong financial and cost management skills
Advantageous Experience
- African road logistics and transportation management
- Exposure to the rail industry
- Leadership and team management experience
- Relevant NQF Level 8 qualification (Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or Customs Compliance)
