About the position

CUSTOMS ENTRY CLERK

A position has arisen within our clients operation in the capacity of a customs entry clerk.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepare, review and lodge accurate customs declarations.
• Classify goods in line with harmonized tariff Schedules and apply correct valuation methods under SARS regulations.
• Cross-check and validate shipping documents (invoices, packing list, bill of lading, certificates of origin etc.).
• Engage directly with SARS and internal teams to resolve clearances, stops and documentation issues.
• Ensure timeous release and delivery co-ordination for import and export shipments, minimizing delays, demurrage and storage costs.
• Stay updated on regulatory changes, preferential trade agreements (SADC, EUR1 etc.) and import/export permit requirements.
• Maintain airtight record keeping in line with customs audits and risk management frameworks.
• Preparing and processing cargo dues, landing and shipping orders and miscellaneous customs documents.

Minimum Requirements

Education

• Grade 12
• Related certification or qualification is preferred

Experience

• Minimum 3 to 4 years' experience with, Harmonized customs tariff headings, Customs Act, rules and regulations and Cargo Wise Systems.

• The incumbent must be hard working and meticulous.
• Be able to work under pressure.
• Also be able to work with minimum supervision but within a team.
• Possess sound written and verbal communication skills.
• Monday to Friday 8am - 5pm and after hours work when required.
