About the position
My client, a leading construction company is looking to appoint a Crusher Electrician to join their team for a 12-month contract based in the Eastern Cape.
The crusher electrician is required to do electrical installation, repairs and Inspections on all the company's crushing operations.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Matric / Grade 12 Certificate
- N3 and Electrical Trade Test Section 13 (Red Seal Electrical Qualification)
- HV reticulation certificate would be advantageous
- Wireman's licence would be advantageous
- Minimum of 3 - 5 Years Experience in systems with 3 phase electrical load more than 1.5 MVA, post Red Seal Qualification
- 6kV installations, 400V motor installations and 550 -700 KVA generator maintenance
- Experience in electrical fault-finding, Electrical reticulation & Control room inspections
- Valid EB Licence
- Must be willing to relocate
- Proficient in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Excel and Word
Duties & Required Skills:
- South African Electrical Standards: Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of South African electrical standards and regulations. This includes familiarity with the South African National Standards (SANS) and the wiring code (SANS 10142) applicable to electrical installations.
- Electrical Equipment Expertise: Proficiency in working with electrical equipment commonly found in crushing plants, such as motors, control panels, switchgear, conveyor systems, crushers and delta star terminations would be an advantage. Understanding the specific electrical requirements and safety considerations for these types of equipment is essential and assisting with improvements as required.
- Wiring and Installation Skills: Competence in wiring and installing electrical systems and equipment according to the relevant South African electrical standards. This includes knowledge of proper cable sizing, cable termination techniques, grounding principles, and the ability to follow electrical diagrams and schematics.
- Troubleshooting and Repair: Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose and repair electrical faults and failures in crushing plant equipment. This involves the ability to use electrical testing equipment, interpret diagnostic codes, analyse electrical systems, and identify and resolve issues in a timely and efficient manner.
- Safety Compliance: Thorough understanding and adherence to safety regulations and protocols specific to South Africa. This includes knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures, electrical safety procedures, arc flash protection, and the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with South African regulations. Conducting of daily routine inspections of equipment and verify routine maintenance by operators and technicians and ensure that the required inspections and maintenance
- PLC and Control Systems: Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and control systems commonly used in crushing plants. This includes the ability to troubleshoot and program PLCs, interpret ladder logic diagrams, and understand the principles of automation and control systems.
- Communication and Collaboration: Effective communication skills to collaborate with other team members, such as engineers, supervisors, and maintenance personnel. The ability to convey technical information clearly, provide updates on electrical work, and coordinate with other departments is important.
- Electrical Testing Equipment: Proficiency in using electrical testing equipment, including multimeters, ammeters, voltmeters, insulation testers, and power quality analysers. Knowledge of how to safely and accurately use these tools to measure, analyse, and validate electrical parameters is crucial.
- Compliance with South African Codes: Familiarity with the specific electrical codes and standards relevant to South Africa. This includes understanding the requirements for electrical installations, grounding and bonding, cable management, protection against electric shock and compliance with MHSA legislation and SHEQ Standards.
