About the position
Are you a seasoned Critical Risk Management expert ready to make a real impact on safety standards at some of the most challenging mining sites in India? Join a global mining leader in this field-based opportunity.
Location: India (FIFO – Fly-In Fly-Out)
Deployment Duration: 3-year project (12-month initial contract, with yearly renewal based on performance)
Shift Pattern: 14 days on-site, 14 days off-site (10-hour shifts, Mondays to Saturdays, Sundays off)
About the Role:
We are looking for nine highly experienced Critical Risk Management (CRM) practitioners to join a multi-year, site-based CRM implementation project across nine operations, including underground hard-rock mines, processing plants, and smelters, for a major global metal mining group operating in India. This is a field deployment role, not an office advisory position.
The successful candidates will spend the majority of their time on operational sites, coaching supervisors and frontline workers in the real-world application of the CRM framework, supported by a critical control management software platform. The CRM Specialist will lead the on-the-ground implementation, ensuring that the CRM framework is translated into observable, repeatable behaviours, embedding CRM into the daily operations rather than merely as a compliance exercise.
Key Responsibilities: (CRM = Critical Risk Management)
- Field-based Coaching: Coach supervisors and frontline workers during live work activities directly at the workface.
- CRM Implementation: Lead operational implementation of the CRM framework, ensuring it moves from design to routine execution on-site.
- Embed CRM Software: Integrate CRM requirements into daily operations using the client's CRM software platform.
- Simplify CRM Concepts: Translate complex CRM concepts, bowties, and critical controls into simple, practical, observable behaviours.
- Drive Workforce Ownership: Help operational teams take ownership of CRM as an operating discipline and foster a deep understanding of why critical controls matter.
- Support Site Leaders: Assist site leaders in conducting higher-quality field-based critical risk conversations.
- Adapt Coaching Approach: Reinforce best practices while adapting your coaching approach to different sites, languages, and cultural contexts.
Essential Requirements:
- 20+ years of hands-on safety and critical risk management experience in metal mining.
- Strong background in open-pit and/or underground hard-rock mining, base metals, and smelter operations.
- Proven track record of implementing CRM frameworks on-site, engaging directly with the workforce (not from an office advisory role).
- Ability to move CRM from design documents into real operational execution.
- Deep operational credibility and recognition by the workforce for your understanding of the job.
- Strong field coaching capability, with the ability to challenge, influence, and bring frontline teams along in safety improvements.
- Willingness and physical capability to commit to long-term FIFO deployment in India, with camp-based accommodations at site.
Highly Regarded (Preferred Experience):
- Experience embedding Critical Control Management (CCM) or Control Effectiveness programs in high-hazard environments.
- Practical implementation experience with Forwood Safety CRM tool or equivalent CRM software platforms.
- Multi-site, multi-cultural deployment experience in African, Asian, or Latin American jurisdictions.
- Background in adult learning or structured workplace coaching.
- Confidence to "hold the line" on critical risk standards, even under operational pressure.
Deployment & Conditions:
- International FIFO deployment to various operational sites across India.
- Flights, accommodation, and meals fully provided by the client.
- Camp-based accommodation on-site.
- Opportunity to engage in a long-term, globally significant CRM implementation program.
- Engagement will be on an associate/independent contractor.
