Position Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Cost Control Engineer to support project execution in Durban. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on all cost-related aspects of large-scale EPC projects. This role is key to ensuring that project budgets are controlled, deviations are tracked, and cost risks are managed throughout the lifecycle of the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain cost control systems and procedures for tracking project budgets, commitments, expenditures, and forecasts
- Work closely with project managers and planners to ensure cost and schedule integration
- Monitor project cost performance and provide regular reports on variances, trends, and forecasts to management and clients
- Support the preparation and evaluation of cost estimates and budgets during various project phases
- Assist in the development and control of project change management processes, evaluating cost impacts of variations
- Track and analyze project cash flows and cost accruals
- Contribute to project risk management by identifying cost risks and recommending mitigation strategies
- Ensure compliance with internal cost control standards and reporting requirements
- Liaise with procurement, engineering, and construction departments to verify quantities and cost allocations
- Assist in monthly cost reporting and invoicing processes
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline
- Minimum of 5–8 years of relevant experience in cost control within the EPC or heavy construction industry
- Strong knowledge of cost control principles, budgeting, and forecasting methods in an EPC environment
- Proficient in cost control and project management software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Primavera, Excel)
- Understanding of project lifecycles, work breakdown structures, and cost coding systems
- High attention to detail, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with international contracting standards such as FIDIC or NEC is a plus
