Cost Accountant

About the position

Our client has a vacancy for a Cost Accountant to be based at their Durban office. The successful candidate will be responsible for project costing, administration and analysis in the Financial Department. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Tracking of all project cost details
• Preparation of weekly costing and work-in-progress schedule
• Review costing details and financials with project managers to ensure accurate allocations and margins
• Run project costing meetings with project managers
• Manage project costing & closing and conduct variance analysis
• Analyse production and over/under absorption
• Produce invoice backups, related project status reports and process invoices in LN per project requirements
• Ensure invoices are approved by clients per contractual terms of agreement
• Conduct project-cost audits
• Report on critical analysis with explanations on variances
• Balance monthly work-in-progress, sales, and cost of sales per month-end reporting deadlines
• Complete annual updates of labour and project costing recovery rates
• Analyse and review weekly labour costings in line with set recoveries
• Manage stock system administration
• Manage quarterly stock counts including stock variance analysis
• Assistance with internal and external financial audit processes

 

REQUIREMENTS:

• Relevant B-degree. Chartered Management Accountant qualification will be a benefit
• 5 - 7 years’ experience in a project and job costing capacity
• Ability to work independently, yet still contribute well to a team environment
• Detail orientated with excellent analytical and problem-identifying and solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently and work under pressure to meet deadlines
• Excellent excel capabilities and skills
• Experience in using an accounting software system
• Self-starter who exhibits strong traits of initiative
