About the position
Our client is looking for an experienced Cost Accountant to join their finance team in Worcester.
A background in heavy engineering manufacturing is essential. This role requires strong practical experience in standard costing, manufacturing variance analysis, work-in-progress (WIP) and project costing.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, production, procurement and supply chain teams to improve costing accuracy, identify cost savings and support profitability.
Minimum Requirements
- BCom in Cost and Management Accounting or CIMA qualification.
- 5-8 years' relevant cost accounting experience within a heavy engineering manufacturing environment.
- Proven standard costing and variance analysis experience.
- Strong WIP and project costing expertise.
- Syspro experience, or experience with another major manufacturing ERP system.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and financial modelling skills.
- Knowledge of IFRS, financial reporting and management accounting.
- Demonstrated experience working closely with engineering, production, procurement and supply chain teams.
- Exposure to lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and review standard costing models for products and manufacturing processes.
- Analyse material, labour and overhead costs, investigate variances and recommend corrective action.
- Perform detailed project costing and monitor WIP, raw materials and finished goods balances.
- Support pricing decisions through accurate product costing and margin analysis.
- Prepare monthly costing reports, management information and profitability analyses by product class.
- Assist with month-end and year-end processes, budgeting, forecasting and financial planning.
- Maintain costing-related ERP master data and support system improvements.
- Partner with operational teams to improve costing accuracy and efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting standards and company policies.
- Support lean manufacturing, continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
