About the position
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as Vernier calipers.
- Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as milling machines, shapers, and grinders.
- Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments.
- Set up, adjust, and operate all basic machine tools, as well as many specialized or advanced variation tools, to perform precision machining operations.
- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
- Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
- Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, as well as to determine product dimensions and tolerances. Select appropriate tools, machines, and materials for preparation of machinery work.
- Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock to indicate the placement of cuts.
- Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose malfunctions and determine the need for adjustments or repairs.
- Check workpieces to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Move or arrange for the movement of units/furnaces to and from the testing area.
- Assemble parts as required for the final product.
- Knowledge of gas brazing and soldering techniques.
- Perform flow, pressure, and megger testing to ensure system integrity.
- Number and/or label items for identification and organization.
