About the position
Client based in Mpumalanga seeks the services of Control Room DCS Operator.
Role Summary/Purpose:
- Monitor Systems:
- Continuously monitor and oversee various systems and processes using computer screens, control panels, and instrumentation.
- Maintain critical parameters such as flow rates, pressures, temperatures, and levels.
- Control Equipment:
- Operate and control machinery, equipment, and systems based on established procedures and guidelines.
- Execute start-up and shutdown operations as needed.
- Data Analysis:
- Analyze data and information from multiple sources to detect abnormalities, malfunctions, or deviations from standard operating conditions.
- Be vigilant in identifying any issues that may impact plant performance.
- Safety Procedures:
- Ensure strict compliance with safety protocols and emergency response procedures.
- Take immediate action in case of emergencies or abnormal situations.
- Effective Communication:
- Maintain effective communication with other operators, team members, and supervisors.
- Relay important information promptly and coordinate activities.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate logs and records of system operations, events, alarms, and maintenance activities.
- Document any incidents or abnormalities.
- Troubleshooting:
- Identify and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions or process issues.
- Make necessary adjustments or initiate corrective actions as required.
- Quality Control:
- Ensure product quality and process efficiency by monitoring variables and making necessary adjustments to maintain desired standards.
- Maintenance Coordination:
- Coordinate and perform routine maintenance tasks and inspections on equipment and systems as needed.
- Report any equipment failures promptly.
- Emergency Response:
- Respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations.
- Follow established emergency procedures and guidelines.
- System Optimization:
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve system efficiency, reduce downtime, and enhance overall performance.
- Training and Compliance:
- Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and receive training on new technologies and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
- Shift Handover:
- Communicate important information to incoming shift operators during shift changes to maintain continuity of operations.
Qualification/Requirements:
· NQF Qualification in Plant operation
Or
· N6/National Diploma/B-Tech/Diploma/Advanced Diploma/Degree in Engineering with minimum 5 years’ experience as DCS/Control Room Operator in process plant
Desired Characteristics:
· Experience: Proven experience as a DCS/Control Room Operator or in a relevant position in process Plant.
· Equipment Handling: Familiarity with operating pumps, compressors, tanks and conveyor belts
· Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety measures, EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety,) systems, and best practices within a process plant.
· Physical Condition: Excellent physical condition and endurance.
· Computer Skills: Working knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel, and word systems.
