About the position

Postion Summary:
Plans, organises, directs and controls the activities of Compute Infrastructure group including physical and human resources. Responsible for the strategic direction of the group and ensuring that service level agreements with the rest of the organisation are maintained. Measures performance, quality and implements continuous improvement strategies. Overseeing the staffing and establishment of the Compute Infrastructure group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Experience managing complex hardware and software engineering projects
  • Lead and manage the cybersecurity, computing infrastructure and networks teams
  • Exposure to IT security best practices
  • Provide direction on infrastructure projects in particular cybersecurity and networks
  • Promulgate IT security policies across the science and business units
  • Provide strategic assistance with design, specifications and procurement of compute infrastructure
  • Ensure meaningful contributions to the construction of SKA and SKA1 projects
  • Ensure that the SARAO and other partner sites cybersecurity, networks and compute infrastructure
  • needs are adequately addressed

Minimum Qualification:
  • Masters Degree / NQF 9

Minimum Experience:
  • 10-11 years
  • Masters in Computer Science or equivalent
  • ITIL Foundation/specialist or equivalent

Experience:
  • 10 years’ managerial experience in a hardware and software engineering environment

Knowledge:
  • Management processes
