About the position
Our client, a large automotive manufacturer, is currently seeking to hire a Component Engineer to join their growing Product Development Division to be based in Kariega, Eastern Cape.
The Component Engineer ensures products meet market requirements through the design, development, testing, and release of locally manufactured and adapted components. The role supports product quality, safety, reliability, cost optimisation, and customer satisfaction for local and export markets.
Minimum Requirements:
- National Diploma/ BTech/ BSc/ BEng in Mechanical, Mechatronic, or Electrical Engineering
- Minimum of 1 years' experience in automotive or similar engineering environment.
- Component/system development and testing experience.
- Exposure to engineering data systems and cross-functional teamwork.
Main duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Design, develop, test, and release components in line with the Group standards.
- Adapt Group designs to African market and environmental conditions.
- Apply preventative and corrective engineering tools (e.g. DFMEA).
- Ensure quality, safety, and reliability compliance before production release.
- Prepare and maintain accurate engineering and technical data.
- Manage engineering changes in line with production build levels.
- Support production, localisation, and cost optimisation initiatives.
- Participate in cross-divisional projects and technical forums.
Technical and Behavioural Competencies:
- Strong technical understanding and problem-solving skills.
- Project management and planning ability.
- Good communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
- High degree of computer literacy (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
