About the position
Our esteemed client in the legal environment, based at the PMB Office in Pietermaritzburg, is urgently seeking a Compliance Officer for a permanent HYBRID position. The purpose of this role is to ensure that the Fund complies with relevant laws, regulations, policies, and industry standards, while mitigating legal and regulatory risks and promoting ethical conduct and corporate governance.
WORK EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Laws, LLB Degree / or related field.
- Recommended : Certificate in area of Governance, Risk and Compliance.
- Recommended : Knowledge of King Code on Governance Principles for South Africa.
- Proven experience as a Compliance Officer, 5 years’ post degree experience.
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
- Excellent knowledge of reporting procedures and record keeping.
- Relevant Professional Body Membership.
Summary / Job Responsibilities:
- Periodically review and enhance compliance programmes to comply with regulatory and organisational requirements and objectives.
- Periodically conduct and oversee the internal reviews or audits to ensure that compliance procedures are followed.
- Provide advice and training where non-compliance is identified
- Collaborate with the relevant departments to review, modify (if applicable) and implement organisation policies.
- Conduct or direct internal investigation of compliance issues
- Informing, educating, and training of employees on matters that are associated with regulations and industry practices.
- Reviewing and enhancing plans to effectively manage crisis of compliance violation
- Staying up to date with internal standards, regulatory developments both within and outside the organisation, as well as evolving best practice.
- Working with external auditors and internal auditors
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including regulators, auditors, and business partners.
- Stay up to date on industry trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
- Discussing compliance issues with the Head of Compliance, and / or employees.
- Ensuring and verifying that all regulatory policies and procedures have been documented, implemented, and communicated to all the stakeholders.
- Prepare reports for senior management and external regulatory bodies as and when required
- Monitors and coordinates compliance with relevant legislation throughout all departments
- Identification and research of significant compliance risks
- Reviews and evaluates compliance issues/ concerns within the organisation
- Maintains and revises policies and procedures for LPFF to prevent improper conduct
- Creates awareness of compliance and promotes a good culture of compliance in the company
