About the position
The Community Relations Principal Advisor role is responsible for developing and implementing the Community Management Plan and Corporate Social Responsibility, leading a cross-functional team and ensuring that all community engagement initiatives align with both project goals and the company's sustainability commitments.
The Principal Advisor will oversee strategic relationships with local communities, government authorities and development partners fostering mutual understanding and long-term trust between the company and its stakeholders. This role requires strong leadership, political awareness and the ability to navigate complex social landscapes with diplomacy and foresight.
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric/N3 with maths and science
- Bachelor Degree in Public Relations/ Communications/ Social Sciences/ Community Development or Business Administration (masters degree is advantageous)
- Valid Drivers License code 08
- Minimum 10 years experience in community relations, stakeholder engagements and social performance of which 3 years in a leadership or management capacity
- Proven Track Record of Developing and implementing community engagement frameworks or social management systems for large-scale infrastructure or mining projects.
- Strong understanding of South African Socio-politcal and community structures, particularly within KZN.
- Demonstrated ability to lead high-level negotiations, facilitate stakeholder dialogues and manage conflict resolutions effectively.
- Experience managing CSR portfolios, community engagement or trust-funded community projects
- Must be fluent in English and isiZulu or Afrikaans (read, write and speak). Additional South African Languages such as isiXhoza or Sesotho will be advantageous.
- Willingness to travel locally for meetings, site visits and events, occational evening or weekend availability may be required.
