About the position
My client, a leading mining company, is looking for a Commissioning Officer to join their team in Kathu for a 3-year contract.
The purpose of the role is to co-ordinate all commissioning documentation and processes, ensuring successful handover and compliance with all project commissioning standards.
Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Safety, Health and Environment
- Support a safe and healthy work environment where workers, external service providers, and contractors can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.
- Keep environmental impact within statutory requirements to ensure compliance.
- Support the compliance with MHSA in the workspace.
- Participate in VFL initiatives and submit the required number per month.
Performance and Delivery
- Punch Listing Procedure
- Receive notifications of punch items and arrange punch listing events, ensuring the commissioning pack with all checklists and methods is available beforehand.
- Capture punch list items accurately in the document management system, maintaining up-to-date tracking grids of commissioning progress.
- Prompt Commissioning Co-ordinators to follow up on assigned defects and ensure timely resolution by relevant contractors.
- Commissioning Certificates
- Assist in generating and compiling commissioning completion documentation per discipline and contractor, ensuring all required certificates are prepared for sign-off.
- Track the sign-off process of commissioning certificates, ensuring proper documentation is captured and maintained in the Document Management System (DMS).
- Reporting and Documentation
- Pull and prepare reports from the document management system, assisting with compiling monthly reports for the commissioning team.
- Compile and maintain organised files for each commissioning area and equipment, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Quality Checks and Safety Compliance
- Co-ordinate with Contract Administrators to ensure up-to-date databooks contain all required data index items.
- Assist with quality checks and ensure compliance with safety procedures, including managing paperwork for access control and supporting all safety-related documentation needs.
- Maintain the interface with contractors, assisting in managing commercial impact procedures and ensuring smooth co-ordination.
REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 12
- Relevant qualification in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical) or a related field at NQF5 level
- Valid driver's license and own reliable vehicle
- 3-5 years of relevant experience managing documentation for the commissioning phase, ensuring that all systems and components are tested, documented, and handed over according to project standards.
- Thorough understanding of commissioning processes and procedures in industrial projects.
- Familiarity with document management systems (DMS) and their application in commissioning.
- Knowledge of safety standards and compliance requirements in the commissioning phase.
- Expertise in managing punch lists, commissioning certificates, and tracking commissioning activities.
- Skilled in ensuring that all documentation meets the quality standards required for commissioning.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and documentation required during the commissioning phase.
- Ability to track progress and generate reports specific to commissioning activities.
