About the position

My client, a leading mining company, is looking for a Commissioning Co-ordinator to join their team in Kathu, Northern Cape, for an 18 month contract.

The purpose of the role is to ensure the efficient co-ordination of all commissioning documentation and processes, ensuring successful handover and compliance with project commissioning standards.

Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Safety, Health, and Environment

  • Support a safe and healthy work environment where workers, external service providers, and contractors can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.
  • Keep environmental impact within statutory requirements to ensure compliance.
  • Support the compliance to MHSA in the workspace.
  • Participate in VFL initiatives and submit the required number per month.

Performance and Delivery

  • Commissioning Documentation and Process Co-ordination
  • Oversee the efficient co-ordination of all commissioning documentation and processes across multiple projects, ensuring alignment with project commissioning standards and successful handover to operations.
  • Establish and enforce best document management practices, ensuring consistent commissioning procedure application across all teams.
  • Punch Listing Procedure
  • Lead the scheduling and organisation of punch listing events, ensuring that all necessary checklists, methods, and documentation are available and distributed to relevant stakeholders in advance
  • Supervise the accurate capture of punch list items in the DMS, maintaining up-to-date tracking grids that reflect the real-time status of commissioning progress
  • Ensure prompt follow-up on assigned defects by co-ordinating with Commissioning Officers and overseeing the timely resolution of issues by contractors
  • Commissioning Certificates Oversight
  • Direct the generation and compilation of commissioning documentation for each discipline and contractor, ensuring that all required certificates are meticulously prepared, reviewed, and ready for sign-off
  • Monitor and mange the sign-off process for commissioning certificates, ensuring all documentation is correctly captured, organised, and maintained in the DMS
  • Reporting & Documentation Management
  • Oversee the extraction, preparation, and presentation of reports from the DMS, ensuring that the commissioning team receives accurate and timely monthly updates
  • Supervise the organisation and maintenance of files for each commissioning area and equipment, ensuring all documentation is complete, accurate and readily accessible
  • Quality Checks & Safety Compliance Co-ordination
  • Collaborate with Contract Administrators to verify that all databooks are up-to-date and contain all required data index items
  • Lead efforts to ensure quality checks and compliance with safety procedures, including managing the necessary paperwork for access control and overseeing all safety-related documentation requirements.
  • Act as the primary interface with contractors, co-ordinating commercial impact procedures and ensuring seamless communication and issue resolution.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Grade 12
  • Relevant qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or related fields (NQF level 6)
  • Commissioning or related certifications are advantageous
  • Valid driver's license and own reliable vehicle
  • 5+ years of relevant experience managing documentation for the commissioning phase, ensuring that all systems and components are tested, documented, and handed over according to project standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of commissioning processes, procedures and best practices in complex industrial projects, including understanding interdisciplinary impacts and requirements.
  • Proficient in using and administering advanced Document Management Systems (DMS), focusing on optimising document flow, access, and storage for commissioning purposes
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety standards and compliance requirements during the commissioning phase, with experience leading teams in adhering to these standards.
  • Expertise in managing and co-ordinating the creation, review, and tracking of punch lists, commissioning certificates, and other critical documentation, ensuring all commissioning activities are tracked meticulously.
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure that all commissioning documentation meets or exceeds project quality standards, focusing on accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Advanced knowledge of safety procedures and the specific documentation required to ensure safety compliance during all stages of the commissioning process.
  • Proficient in tracking and analysing commissioning progress, generating comprehensive and actionable reports tailored to stakeholder needs.
  • Valid driver's license and own reliable vehicle
