Our client within the logistics sector is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Senior Manager: Commercial to lead business growth initiatives, strengthen customer relationships, drive revenue generation, and manage strategic commercial activities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing commercial strategies, identifying new business opportunities, managing key accounts, and driving market expansion within highly specialised logistics sectors.
This opportunity requires a dynamic and strategic leader with extensive experience within fuel, chemical, liquid bulk, or dangerous goods logistics environments.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Commercial Growth
- Drive customer retention strategies and identify opportunities for new business development.
- Develop and manage business growth pipelines and opportunity portfolios.
- Identify and develop new markets and industry opportunities.
- Drive market penetration initiatives and implement commercial growth strategies.
- Participate in RFQ processes and commercial tender submissions.
- Generate revenue growth through key account development and relationship management.
- Conduct trend analysis and forecasting activities to support commercial decisions.
Account & Customer Relationship Management
- Manage strategic customer relationships and key accounts.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and service delivery.
- Resolve customer concerns and manage escalations effectively.
- Conduct customer interactive sessions and satisfaction surveys.
- Support customer retention and long-term relationship development.
Commercial Analysis & Reporting
- Conduct detailed data analysis to support business decisions.
- Manage KPI reporting and commercial performance analysis.
- Monitor volume forecasting and market trends.
- Manage unit rate billing and commercial reporting requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across commercial operations.
Industry Development & Stakeholder Engagement
- Participate in trade shows and industry networking opportunities.
- Recruit and manage transporters within the Control Tower environment.
- Build strategic relationships with industry stakeholders.
- Support operational and commercial alignment across business functions.
Compliance & General Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to ISO 9001:2015 standards and company procedures.
- Prepare and present management reports.
- Support strategic projects and ad hoc commercial initiatives.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism and business ethics.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Degree in Supply Chain Management, Marketing, Business Management, or related qualification.
- Minimum 5 years' management experience.
- Minimum 8–10 years' experience within DG, Fuel, Liquid Bulk, Chemical, or related logistics operations from a commercial management perspective.
- Minimum 10 years' commercial management experience within the logistics industry.
- Advanced negotiation skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Office and computer proficiency.
- Strong report writing and analytical skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of fuel, chemical, and petroleum contractual activities within logistics environments.
- Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport.
