Commercial Manager

About the position

A well-established civil engineering contractor is looking to appoint a seasoned Commercial Manager for their Johannesburg branch. The successful candidate will be responsible for protecting the commercial interests of the business through effective contract administration, rigorous cost management, and disciplined claims control across major civil projects.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full commercial lifecycle of construction contracts
• Ensure accurate administration of FIDIC and related contract frameworks
• Oversee claims preparation, submissions, and negotiations
• Monitor project costs, revenue, and profitability
• Review subcontractor agreements, payments, and final accounts
• Drive compliance with contractual obligations and reporting requirements
• Support dispute resolution and commercial litigation processes
• Prepare detailed commercial reports and forecasts for executive management
• Ensure all variations and project changes are properly documented and recovered

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Construction Management
• 15+ years' experience within heavy civil construction environments
• 12+ years' experience in contract and claims management
• Strong background with major South African civil contractors
• Proven experience managing high-value infrastructure contracts
• In-depth understanding of FIDIC contract conditions
• Strong commercial acumen and analytical ability
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
