Mainframe Developer (COBOL & DB2)

Location: Cape Town
Work Model: Hybrid
Engagement: Contract - 12 months

About the RoleWe are seeking experienced Mainframe Developers with strong COBOL and DB2 expertise to join our team in Cape Town. This role offers the opportunity to work across the full development lifecycle, contributing to the design, development, maintenance, and optimisation of enterprise applications within a mainframe environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance applications within mainframe environments.
  • Design, code, test, and implement solutions using COBOL and DB2.
  • Analyse business and technical requirements, translating them into effective solutions.
  • Perform application enhancements, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Optimise DB2 queries and database solutions.
  • Investigate and resolve production issues and system defects.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and quality assurance activities.
  • Collaborate with technical teams, business stakeholders, and delivery teams.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and ensure alignment with standards.

Key Requirements- Proven experience as a Mainframe Developer.- Strong hands-on COBOL development experience.- Solid DB2 expertise.- Understanding of mainframe development environments and SDLC processes.- Experience in application maintenance, enhancements, and production support.- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.- Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Advantageous- Experience with additional mainframe technologies and tools.- Background in financial services or large enterprise environments.- Exposure to Agile delivery methodologies.- Relevant IT qualification.
