About the position
Role Summary
To lead the strategic growth, innovation and operational excellence of the Liquor category across the region. The Liquor Co-Ordinator holds end-to-end accountability for category performance, leveraging commercial analysis, category insights, margin optimisation and disciplined in-store execution to drive sustainable sales growth and profitability.
Working in close collaboration with Buying, Store Operations, Marketing and Supply Chain, the role delivers differentiated, customer-centric liquor solutions that enhance the shopping experience, maximise category performance and strengthen the business's position as a destination for liquor shopping. The Co-Ordinator provides strategic guidance and operational support to Store Management teams, ensuring sales and promotional opportunities are fully optimised through effective inventory planning, promotional execution, compliance management and category merchandising, while safeguarding gross margin, stock integrity and regulatory compliance.
Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
5-7 years' management experience within liquor retail, FMCG, wholesale liquor, beverage distribution, or a related retail environment.
Relevant retail, commercial or business qualification will be advantageous.
Demonstrated experience managing sales, gross margin, inventory, shrinkage, and operational performance.
Strong understanding of liquor legislation, licensing requirements and responsible alcohol retailing practices.
Experience in category management, merchandising, promotional planning, and retail operations.
Competencies:
Strong commercial and financial acumen (margin analysis, stock availability, inventory management, shrinkage control).
Strategic thinking with strong category development capability.
Advanced analytical proficiency (Excel, SAP, Power BI, retail BI systems).

Execute a forward-thinking Liquor category strategy aligned to customer trends, market dynamics, and business growth objectives.
Drive sales, gross margin and contribution targets through pricing architecture, promotional optimisation and category management.
Identify growth opportunities across wine, spirits, beer, ciders, ready-to-drink beverages, and emerging categories.
Analyse competitor activity, market trends, customer preferences and category performance to enhance competitive positioning.
Support the development and implementation of category plans that deliver sustainable sales growth and profitability.
Monitor and optimise product assortment to ensure the right balance of premium, mainstream and value offerings.
Product Assortment and Customer Experience
Support the development and execution of relevant product assortments aligned to customer demand and market trends.
Drive seasonal, promotional and event-based liquor campaigns to maximise sales opportunities.
Enhance in-store merchandising, category presentation and promotional displays to create an engaging shopping experience.
Champion product knowledge, category education and customer service excellence within stores.
Support the introduction of new products, brands and innovation opportunities within the category.
Ensure stores maintain high standards of stock presentation, availability and category execution.
Operational Excellence and Store Enablement
Provide strategic guidance to Store Management teams to optimise stock management, replenishment, inventory control, and promotional execution.
Establish clear operating standards, execution playbooks and best-practice frameworks for liquor operations.
Monitor store compliance with liquor licensing regulations, company policies, responsible trading requirements and age-verification procedures.
Identify margin leakage linked to stock losses, damages, shrinkage, incorrect pricing or poor stock management and implement corrective action plans.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and profitability.
Support new store openings, liquor department expansions and store refurbishments.
Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management
Ensure all stores operate in accordance with applicable liquor legislation, licensing requirements and company compliance standards.
Monitor compliance with responsible alcohol retailing policies and age-restricted sales procedures.
Conduct regular store audits to identify compliance risks and implement corrective actions.
Support stores in preparing for regulatory inspections and compliance reviews.
Maintain awareness of legislative changes affecting liquor retail operations and communicate requirements to stakeholders.
Develop action plans to address compliance gaps and minimise business risk.
Data Analytics and Performance Insights
Analyse sales, margin, stock turn, inventory holding, shrinkage and promotional performance to identify risks and opportunities.
Use data analytics to generate actionable commercial insights and influence business decisions.
Track promotional effectiveness, seasonal activity performance, and return on investment, adjusting strategies where required.
Develop performance dashboards and scorecards to guide store accountability and identify best practices.
Monitor stock availability, aged inventory, and category productivity metrics.
Develop structured action plans supported by measurable KPIs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Buying, Demand Planning, and Supply Chain teams to ensure optimal product availability and stock flow.
Collaborate with Marketing on promotional campaigns, seasonal activations and customer engagement initiatives.
Participate in supplier reviews, product evaluations, category reviews and benchmarking activities.
Act as the key liaison between Support Office and Stores for Liquor category execution and performance.
Build strong relationships with suppliers to support category growth and promotional opportunities.
Merchandising and Standards
Support the rollout of planograms, category layouts, and visual merchandising standards.
Ensure stores adhere to merchandising, pricing, promotional and display standards across liquor departments.
Conduct store visits to assess execution standards and identify opportunities for improvement.
Assist with the distribution of merchandising guides, compliance documentation and operational standards.
Gather and communicate store feedback to improve product range, customer experience and merchandising effectiveness.
Ensure promotional displays and category layouts maximise customer engagement while remaining compliant with regulatory requirements.
Administrative Support
Assist with promotional planning, implementation, and post-promotion analysis.
Compile category sales, stock, compliance, and performance reports for management review.
Maintain accurate records relating to category initiatives, compliance activities, and store audits.
Support communication and implementation of category-related projects and initiatives.
Leadership Impact
Mentor and upskill Store Management teams on category management, compliance requirements, margin optimisation, stock management, and customer engagement.
Foster a performance-driven culture focused on accountability, responsible trading, and continuous improvement.
Influence stakeholders across Operations, Marketing, Buying, and Supply Chain to deliver integrated category solutions.
