About the position
Our client is looking fora CNC Machinist for an initial 3 month contract to a permanent contract based in Port Elizabeth.
In addition to machining, the machinist has to have experience in stripping pumps in order to repair the required new components, and the assembly by machining. Fitting experience is soft of mandatory.
Understanding hydraulics is also required.
The company does on site line boring with internal orbital welding and onsite journal machining and external orbital welding with a portable lathe. This can be taught, but some experience here will be advantageous, but not necessary.
The companies’ clients are mainly the marine industry, ships and marine infrastructure, but they do get called to assist in industries when others can’t do the job.
They have unique tools, equipment and capabilities. Their CNC machines are huge, and they don’t compete with workshops that have small machines and make zillions of small parts.
The ideal candidate must meet the following criteria:
- Has a valid driver’s license.
- Has a trade test certification: Fitter and Turner, Machinist, Toolmaker, any will do.
- Ideally this candidate would have started his career in manual mill and lathe, including large lathe.
- Then progressed to CNC:
- Includes drawing and developing 3D CAD in Fusion 360 or Inventor
- Understands and can-do post processing
- If the CNC experience is limited that will be ok but must be able to design
- Understands selecting the correct tools for the job size and RPM.
- Used a slotter for keyways.
- Has excellent hand skills.
- Fitting experience.
- Will work on site from time to time.
- Understands hydraulics for machining repairs to such systems.
- Understands rigging.
- Works well in the group.
- Will be second most senior together with 3 fitters on the same level.
- Is energetic and does and in excellent health problems that will affect workflow.
- Demonstrates a positive can-do attitude free from negative energy and toxicity.
- Is a problem solver.
Prepared to work overtime during the week and weekends at regulated extra overtime pay
