About the position
Our client in the consulting engineering sector is seeking a qualified Civil Engineering Technician to join their Cape Town office. This hybrid role combines civil engineering site supervision with project management, ensuring the successful delivery of infrastructure projects across public and private sectors. Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Afrikaans are required, as the role involves regular interaction with clients, contractors, and site teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and budgets
- Monitor project progress and implement corrective actions
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, and internal multidisciplinary teams
- Supervise on-site civil and building works, ensuring design and safety compliance
- Conduct site inspections, condition assessments, and oversee upgrades, maintenance, and new construction
- Oversee construction activities: earthworks, sewerage systems, brickwork, and concrete works
- Implement quality assurance procedures and ensure construction standards are met
- Issue site instructions and maintain detailed progress and cost reports
- Calculate quantities, manage procurement, and optimize resource use
- Resolve on-site challenges effectively
Requirements
- National Diploma in Civil Engineering.
- B.Tech/M.Tech in Project Management (advantageous)
- ECSA Candidate Engineering Technician (or eligible)
- Minimum 5 years' experience in civil engineering and project management
- Experience in municipal infrastructure, housing developments, and building maintenance
- Strong site supervision and construction management skills
- Proficient in surveying, quality control, documentation, MS Word, Excel
- Knowledge of construction safety standards, environmental compliance, and ECSA/SACPCMP Stage 1-6 deliverables
- Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate with stakeholders
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Afrikaans.
