About the position
Our client is looking for a Chief Financial Officer to join their team.
Reporting to the CEO, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic financial leadership, ensuring the financial integrity, sustainability, and growth of the company. You will be responsible for managing the financial actions of the company, overseeing budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, reporting, treasury, tax, compliance, risk management, and investor relations.
This position is critical in supporting strategic initiatives, managing financial risks, and optimizing profitability within the industry.
Key responsibilities include:
Strategic Leadership:
- Partnering with the CEO and Executive team to develop and implement business strategies
- Driving financial performance in alignment with strategic objectives and long-term growth targets
Financial Planning & Analysis:
- Leading the annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning processes
- Providing financial insight and analysis to support commercial decisions and improve profitability
- Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) and preparing financial dashboards and reports for stakeholders
Financial Reporting & Compliance:
- Overseeing the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS and local tax regulations
- Ensuring compliance with all regulatory and statutory requirements including SARS, Companies Act, and industry-specific compliance
Treasury & Cash Flow Management:
- Managing the company's capital structure, working capital, cash flow, and banking relationships
- Optimising liquidity and funding strategies to support operational and investment needs
Risk Management & Controls:
- Developing and implementing robust internal controls and risk management frameworks
- Ensuring insurance, credit, foreign exchange, and operational risks are identified and mitigated effectively
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Acting as the primary contact for auditors, tax authorities, financial institutions and shareholders
- Presenting financial results and strategic plans to the Board of Directors and key stakeholders
Leadership & Team Development:
- Leading, mentoring, and developing the finance team to support the company's growth
- Promoting a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, and strong ethics
Requirements:
- CA(SA)
- Minimum 10-15 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in manufacturing, chemicals, agriculture or related sectors
- Proven experience in a CFO or senior finance role within a mid-to-large enterprise
- Deep understanding of cost accounting, inventory management, supply chain finance, and export/import finance
Experience in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar) and financial modeling tools
Strategic thinking and strong business acumen
- Exceptional financial and analytical skills, including IFRS and consolidation skills
- Strong leadership and people management abilities
- Group financial reporting packs for submission to a listed company
- Preparation of Group companies annual financial statements
