About the position

CATEGORY MANAGER - LIQUOR

My client a leading FMCG retailer in Cape Town has an exciting new vacancy for a Category Manager in their Liquor department.

THE POSITION
The purpose of this position is to purchase goods for the Western Cape and maintain the products at the budgeted gross profit for both the Distribution Centre and Retailers.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Strategically drive sales to achieve budgeted sales
  • Daily analysis of the key statistics
  • Manage recoveries in line with budget
  • Negotiate pricing, promotional deals, and new product launch listing fees
  • Maintain pricing competitiveness within company pricing policy
  • Manage margin expectations (DC / Retail)
  • Conduct performance reviews with your direct report
  • Conduct strategic planning meetings
  • Eliminate pricing claims
  • Maintain stockholding against budget (Days and Rand Value)
  • Align Supplier Strategy with DC strategy and foster good trading relationships
  • Manage product ranges within specified product categories.
  • Minimise stock write-offs and out of stocks - 'Just In Time' ordering
  • Enhance customer experience in the liquor category.
  • Understand local and international trends and drive innovation within the category.
  • Cross functional category collaboration
  • Develop and maintain meaningful strategic relationships with liquor trade partners

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Matric
  • Marketing or similar tertiary education is advantageous
  • Knowledge of FMCG
  • 3-5 years buying experience, preferably in the Liquor category
  • Basic knowledge of food safety management and principles
  • Must be able to thrive in a competitive and pressurised environment
  • Be a Team Player (People Skills)
  • Knowledge of Buying Systems and Processes
  • Strong Negotiation and Interpersonal Skills
  • Strong Planning Skills
  • Good Financial Skills
  • Good Administrative Skills
  • Good Analytical Skills
  • Good Communication Skills (Verbal and Written)
  • Driver's License
