About the position

The cashier is responsible for processing customer transactions accurately and efficiently while providing excellent customer service. This role involves handling cash, credit, and digital transactions, maintaining the checkout area, and assisting with store operations as needed.

Location: Cavendish (Southern Suburbs)



Requirements:

  • Matric
  • Strong Math skills Basic PC Knowledge, MS Office, familiarity with electronic equipment, like a cash register and Point of Sale (POS).
  • Able to work weekends and public holidays.
  • The cashier position requires standing for extended periods of time, as well as bending, stooping, and lifting /pulling sacks and bales of masala averaging between 20-30 kgs.
  • Must be able to work and function effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in a food service or retail industry is advantageous.
  • Prior experience as a Cashier or in a similar role preferred.
  • Able to handle cash transactions accurately & efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and professional customer service skills.

Transaction Handling


  • Manage transactions with the customer using the cash register.
  • Scan goods and ensure pricing is correct.
  • Process all the items and total purchases for customer payment.
  • Process bag purchases as per customer request.
  • Request the loyalty card from the customer .
  • Process cash, credit/debit card, mobile payments and refunds accurately.
  • Collect the payment either cash or credit.
  • Issue receipts, refunds, and change accurately.
  • Provide a positive customer experience with friendly and courteous service.
  • POS – Cash Handling Maintain a cash drops of a maximum balance of R2000.
  • Ensure frequent cash drops are done to mitigate risks, this must be done in accordance to finance policies and procedures.
  • Must adhere to cash collection process and drops - must be done in conjunction with Supervisors.
  • Adhere to finance SOPs, execution of cash analysis, returns documentation, temp user logs, voucher controls.
  • End of day cash reconciliations sheets must be signed by Cashier and Store Supervisor. (ensure correct recordings of overs & unders).
  • Storage of overs – adherence must be in line with finance process.

Customer Service


  • Greet customers and answer questions confidently.
  • Request Loyalty card from customer and enlighten customer about Rewards cards.
  • Assist to resolve all queries from customer, alternatively escalate to the store Supervisor.
  • Ensure professional behaviour and mannerism with customers -you are the last point of contact with the customer – your behaviour directly influences a customer’s perception and loyalty.
  • Cash Register Operation: Use point of sale system and maintain proper cash handling process when requesting floats, change and cashing up at end of the day.
  • All requests to be made via the Supervisor on duty.
  • Ensure cash is counted at the beginning of shift and end of shift.
  • Follow cash handling process and procedures.

Cleanliness/Housekeeping & Organization


  • Keep you workstation clutter free, dust free and organized. The till area must be cleaned daily.
  • Savoury area must be cleaned daily and must be monitored, and stock level must be always maintained.

Promotions & Upselling


  • Maintain an awareness of all promotions and advertisements.
  • Inform all customers about the stores current promotions and offers.
  • Enlighten customers about new products, persuade customers to try out demos made.

Inventory

  •  Ensure the stock behind point-of-sale area (cosmetics & high value items) are monitored and inventory counts are correct and accurate.
  • Ensure till rolls, packets (different sizes) and other resources (e.g. cups, cup lids, serviettes, savouries packets) are readily available and stock of these items are on hand.

Team Support


  • Assist other staff members during busy periods and perform store duties as needed.
  • Assist with Stock counts, receiving and packing stock items.


Health & Safety


  • Adhere to all food safety regulation and health and safety regulations.
  • Adhere to safe food handling processes when working with prepared food and with preparation of food.
