About the position
Job Purpose:
The purpose of this role is to lead and supervise a team of cabling technicians in the installation, termination, testing, and maintenance of fibre optic and UTP cabling systems. The role ensures projects are delivered on time, to specification, and in compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate day-to-day activities of cabling teams on site.
- Install, terminate, and test fibre optic and UTP structured cabling systems.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, site plans, and cabling schematics.
- Ensure all cabling works meet industry standards (e.g., TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC).
- Conduct site surveys and assist in planning routes and methods of installation.
- Monitor job progress and report regularly to the Project and Division Manager.
- Ensure correct usage and maintenance of tools, test equipment and PPE.
- Maintain detailed records of work, including test results and project documentation.
- Supervise subcontractors or junior staff, ensuring quality and efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations on-site.
- Liaise with clients and other contractors as required.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Senior Certificate (Essential)
- Driver's License & Own transport non-negotiable
- Minimum 3-5 years' hands-on experience in fibre optic and UTP cabling installations
- At least 1-2 years in a supervisory or team leader role.
- Certification in structured cabling systems (e.g., BICSI, CNCI, or vendor-specific such as CommScope, Panduit).
- Valid fibre optic splicing and testing certification is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of OTDR and Fluke DTX/DSX testing equipment.
- Working knowledge of cable containment systems (trays, ladders, conduits, etc.).
