About the position
Job Overview:
Cable technicians install, repair, and maintain network cabling and fiber cables for client
networks. The duties of a cable technician include installing copper (CAT5 -CAT8) and fiber
cables on the client's premises.
We are looking to hire a reliable and organised cable technician
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Installing, maintaining, and repairing cable infrastructure both coper and fiber.
- To install, maintain, and repair
- Network cable systems for business clients.
- Cable technicians are responsible for installing data and voice cable systems.
- Include digging and setting ground cables, working on poles, installing equipment, and troubleshooting any problems with the cable system.
- Include the termination of cables, testing of copper cables
- Include the termination of cables, testing of fiber cables with slicing machines
and OTDR testers.
- Performing maintenance on existing cabling systems.
- Testing newly installed or relocated cables according to company specifications.
- Identifying and removing redundant cabling.
- Installing of routers, Wi-Fi Access points and internet technology devices.
- Troubleshooting issues with the cable network.
- Installing of cable support structures such as, cable racks, and innerduct.
- Repairing cable poles and towers.
- Ensuring all cables are neatly tied and bundled according to safety regulations and
industry standards.
- Completing paperwork such as timesheets, checklists, vehicle inspection reports, and service orders.
- Have great knowledge of the health and safety requirement.
Qualifications:
- South African ID document.
- No criminal record. (Criminal checks are done annually to work on our client sites)
- High school matric or grade 12 certificate.
- Previous work experience as a cable technician for +/-5 years.
- Strong knowledge of mathematics, science, and electrical systems.
- Ability to install complex cabling networks.
- Ability to document complex cabling networks.
- Ability to work in cramped spaces.
- Ability to work at great heights
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and fix any problems that may arise.
- Valid driver's license. (Code 8 or higher drivers)
- MODTAP or KRONE certified.
- Team player.
- Medically fit to perform the work.
- Knowledge of network cabling both coper and fibre systems and cable technology.
