Trainee Buyer (Procurement)

Job Summary
An established organisation is seeking a Trainee Buyer to support procurement operations. The role involves purchasing goods, materials, and services in line with cost, quality, lead-time, and compliance requirements.
This is an excellent opportunity for a junior candidate looking to gain experience in procurement and supply chain within a structured environment.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Purchasing
- Provide procurement support in line with company policies and procedures
- Manage the Request for Quotation (RFQ) process
- Source goods and services from approved suppliers
- Ensure purchases meet cost, quality, and delivery requirements
- Prepare and issue purchase orders accurately and timeously
- Negotiate pricing and contract terms with suppliers
Supplier & Contract Management
- Assist with supplier selection and evaluation
- Maintain an approved vendor database
- Ensure compliance with contract management procedures
- Build and maintain professional supplier relationships
Administration & Systems
- Capture and manage procurement data on ERP systems
- Track purchase orders and follow up on deliveries
- Resolve pricing and contract queries
- Maintain accurate filing and documentation
- Generate reports on outstanding orders
General Duties
- Support departmental savings initiatives and KPIs
- Communicate delays or issues to relevant stakeholders
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with internal controls
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Perform any additional duties as required by management
Minimum Requirements
- Qualification in Procurement / Logistics / Supply Chain Management (Certificate, Diploma or Degree – NQF 6)
- 1–2 years’ experience in a procurement or buying role
- Computer literacy (Excel / Google Sheets, Word / Google Docs)
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP or Sage advantageous)
