Trainee Buyer (Procurement)
Department: Procurement
Position Type: Fixed-Term Contract (1 Year) 
Location: KwaZulu-Natal

Job Summary
An established organisation is seeking a Trainee Buyer to support procurement operations. The role involves purchasing goods, materials, and services in line with cost, quality, lead-time, and compliance requirements.
This is an excellent opportunity for a junior candidate looking to gain experience in procurement and supply chain within a structured environment.

Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Purchasing

  • Provide procurement support in line with company policies and procedures
  • Manage the Request for Quotation (RFQ) process
  • Source goods and services from approved suppliers
  • Ensure purchases meet cost, quality, and delivery requirements
  • Prepare and issue purchase orders accurately and timeously
  • Negotiate pricing and contract terms with suppliers

Supplier & Contract Management
  • Assist with supplier selection and evaluation
  • Maintain an approved vendor database
  • Ensure compliance with contract management procedures
  • Build and maintain professional supplier relationships

Administration & Systems
  • Capture and manage procurement data on ERP systems
  • Track purchase orders and follow up on deliveries
  • Resolve pricing and contract queries
  • Maintain accurate filing and documentation
  • Generate reports on outstanding orders

General Duties
  • Support departmental savings initiatives and KPIs
  • Communicate delays or issues to relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure all procurement activities comply with internal controls
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Perform any additional duties as required by management

Minimum Requirements
  • Qualification in Procurement / Logistics / Supply Chain Management (Certificate, Diploma or Degree – NQF 6)
  • 1–2 years’ experience in a procurement or buying role
  • Computer literacy (Excel / Google Sheets, Word / Google Docs)
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP or Sage advantageous)
