About the position
Our client, a leading Chemical Manufacturing company based in Durban, is looking to fill the position of Buyer.
Purpose of the Role:
This role will include a focus on expediting of local shipments, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery whilst supporting our commitment to world-class operational excellence. The candidate must be methodical, detail-oriented, accurate and timeous.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build relationships with suppliers and negotiate with them for the best price, quantities and delivery timescales.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production and QA, to design packaging solutions that enhance product visibility and shelf appeal.
- Process requisitions and update production on the status of orders.
- Update inventory and manage stock levels.
- Arrange transport of goods and track orders to ensure timely delivery.
- Coordinate with production, logistics and warehouse.
- Maintain accurate documentation of processes and procedures, ensuring adherence to ISO standards and facilitating successful audits.
- Generate and process branch orders.
- Deliver on departmental KPI's such as supplier OTIF+Q, reduction of demurrage costs, and efficiency improvements.
- Load relevant price lists and supplier documentation on agreed platforms.
- Resolve any invoicing, quantity or price variances.
- BBBEE certificate collection and data capture.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Matric / Grade 12
- BCom Supply Chain/Logistics, CIPS, APICS or similar
- Experience in import logistics and international trade advantageous
- 0 - 3 years of experience within the manufacturing industry sector
- Proficiency in ERP and software systems
