About the position

Role Summary
The Business Development Consultant will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, growing market share, and developing strategic relationships within the retail, wholesale, and FMCG markets. The successful candidate must have a consultative sales approach, strong product understanding (ideally in packaging), and the ability to translate client needs into effective product solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • New Business Development

Identify, target, and secure new clients in retail, FMCG, wholesale, and hospitality sectors.
Conduct market research to identify trends, gaps, and growth opportunities.
Build and manage a strong sales pipeline through cold calling, networking, and industry engagement.

  • Client Relationship Management

Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients.
Conduct client needs assessments and recommend product solutions accordingly.
Provide exceptional customer service to ensure client retention and account expansion.

  • Sales Strategy & Execution

Create and execute effective sales plans to achieve monthly and annual revenue targets.
Present product offerings and tailored solutions to potential and existing clients.
Conduct on-site visits, product demonstrations, and formal sales presentations.

  • Product & Industry Knowledge

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of packaging products, materials, and industry developments.
Provide clients with insights on product performance, sustainability options, and operational value.
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure product accuracy and service consistency.

  • Reporting & Administration

Provide accurate weekly and monthly sales reports, forecasts, and pipeline updates.
Update CRM systems with all client interactions and sales activity.
Prepare professional quotes, proposals, and service agreements.

Qualifications & Experience
Required
3-6 years' experience in business development or B2B sales.
Proven success in developing new business within retail, FMCG, or related sectors.
Strong commercial acumen with excellent negotiation skills.
Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport.
Preferred
Experience in packaging, printing, retail consumables, or associated industries.
Existing client networks within the FMCG/retail supply chain environment.

***Salary - R25,000.00 - R30,000.00 + Petrol + Cell (Negotiable, based on skills, experience and in relation to current package)
