About the position
An independent, owner-managed boutique asset manager in Johannesburg is looking for a Business Development Manager to grow its independent financial adviser relationships and turn them into sustainable new investment flows. This is not a general financial services sales role. You will need three to five years in asset management, investment distribution, wealth management or a LISP environment, an active IFA network you have built yourself rather than one that runs on your employer's brand, and a record of generating net new flows or growing assets under management. RE5 is essential. You will also need enough investment knowledge to hold a credible conversation with an experienced adviser about fund positioning, performance and where a portfolio sits. The firm is small and owner-managed, and the role is yours to build. You own the pipeline end to end, from the first adviser meeting through onboarding and business approval to the reporting, and you work directly with the investment team rather than through a layer of product marketing. You also get access to the existing adviser database as a platform to build from. The basic carries you through year one while you build. From year two it reduces and a percentage of the management fee on the assets you introduce becomes the main earner, so the book you build compounds. Realistic additional earnings in year one are R500 000 to R700 000.
