About the position

The company is a private company specializing in the Mining Exploration and Drilling industries. They supply drilling exploration spares, consumables, and specialized parts to companies across Africa, including Zambia, Tanzania, DRC, and Mali. They expect significant growth in this segment in 2024 and need an excellent Business Development Manager to play a key role in sales optimisation.
This is a new role that have been created with the aim to grow the business through various channels which is dealt with below.

You person will be responsible for showing growth in the various channels on a constant basis. To excel in this role a person requires a sound industry knowledge, industry network and excellent negotiation skills.

As part this role’s responsibilities you will also be responsible to drive the branding, marketing, and social media of the entire business.

The overall Sales / Marketing Strategy will be:

  • Farming existing clients: Understand the business of and build relationships with the current client base to increase sales volume and identify new supply opportunities.
  • Expand the client base: Expand the client base by identifying and onboarding new clients which fit the business risk profile. One of the objectives will also be to diversify the business away from exploration drilling into mining and the industrial sector.
  • Expanding the product offering: Identify additional supply opportunities through which the business can expand its supply offering both in the exploration industry as well as the mining and industrial sectors.
  • Strategic sourcing: Deal with all aspects of strategic sourcing which includes market research, negotiation and contracting.
  • Partnership, distribution, and agency agreements: Identifying partners globally with whom formal arrangements can be put in place to secure exclusive supply agreements at competitive pricing.
  • Supplier and partner relationships: This person will also be responsible to manage all key supplier relationships

 
It is noted that there will likely be a ramp-up and time lag to reach anticipated growth in sales levels. It is anticipated approximately 4 – 6 months to unlock sales and implement overall Sales / Marketing strategies. The following goals and objectives are defined to pave the way in implementation of the overall Sales / Marketing strategy:
 

  • Identify Gaps in Market
  • Document Growth Ideas
  • Identify Sales Tools
  • Streamline and improve Procurement Channels
  • Streamline and improve Distribution Channels
  • Extend product offerings
  • Continuously Improve Sales processes
  • Calculate and document realistic margins
  • Compile a detailed annual, quarterly and Monthly budget driven my QTY, Cost, Margins and Discount offerings
  • Identify specific resource requirements
  • Calculate Working Capital Requirement
  • Optimise Stockholding Levels and inventory mix

 Remuneration

  • It is anticipated that it will be apx 4 – 6 months to unlock sales and implement overall Sales / Marketing strategies. During this period, a Basic Salary will be negotiated.
  • Thereafter, the role will be heavily incentivised towards an increase in sales on a commission basis in addition to basic salary
  • Commission will be Volume and GP bracket driven.
  • Commission will be on Cash In - Cash Out Basis
  • In addition, a bonus arrangement will be put in place whereby an annual bonus can be earned based on prior agreed KPIs.
  • Typically you will be incentivised for the quality and number of supply agreements concluded and the marketing and branding building initiatives that have been successfully implemented.
