Job Overview: Building and Construction Estimator
Job Summary:
The Building and Construction Estimator will be responsible for evaluating construction projects and determining the overall costs involved. This includes assessing materials, labor, equipment, and other related expenses to prepare accurate and comprehensive cost estimates. Estimators work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure project budgets are realistic and competitive.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Assessment:
- Review project plans, specifications, and other documentation to understand the scope of work.
- Conduct site visits to gather necessary information about existing conditions and potential project challenges.
- Cost Estimation:
- Calculate material, labor, equipment, and overhead costs.
- Develop detailed cost estimates and budgets for various stages of the project (conceptual, preliminary, and final estimates).
- Data Analysis and Research:
- Research and analyze historical data, market trends, and pricing information to inform estimates.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Bid Preparation:
- Prepare and submit competitive bids for projects.
- Collaborate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain and evaluate quotes.

- Project Management Support:
- Assist in project scheduling and planning.
- Monitor project progress and update cost estimates as needed.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations for stakeholders.
- Maintain organized records of all estimates, bids, and correspondence.
- Client Interaction:
- Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs and provide cost-effective solutions.
- Address client queries and concerns regarding estimates and budgets.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field is typically required.
- Advanced certifications, such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE)
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction estimating or a related role.
- Experience with various types of construction projects (residential, commercial, industrial)
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in construction estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Sage Estimating, CCS/Candy).
- Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and building codes.
- Ability to read and interpret Tender/Construction Drawings, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Strong mathematical and analytical abilities to develop accurate cost estimates.
- Attention to detail and the ability to identify potential cost-saving measures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to present complex information clearly and concisely to various stakeholders.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
- Proficiency in maintaining detailed and organized records.
- Ability to anticipate and address potential project challenges and risks.
- Creative thinking to provide innovative solutions for cost reduction and efficiency improvement.
- Awareness and understanding of Market Trends
