Bookkeeper

About the position

A well-established company based in the East Rand is seeking an experienced Accountant / Bookkeeper to join their team.
Minimum Requirements

• Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Financial Accounting or equivalent
• Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar accounting role
• Strong bookkeeping, reconciliations, VAT and SARS experience
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Ability to manage multiple clients and work independently

Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Bookkeeping

• Process accounting records through to Trial Balance
• Prepare monthly and annual accounting records
• Process journals, accruals, prepayments and year-end adjustments
• Perform bank, creditor, debtor, VAT, payroll, fixed asset and inter-company reconciliations
• Investigate and resolve reconciliation discrepancies

Bookkeeping Review

• Review client bookkeeping and correct processing errors
• Ensure accounting records are accurate and compliant

VAT & SARS

• Prepare and review VAT201 returns
• Perform VAT reconciliations and assist with VAT audits
• Liaise with SARS and ensure tax compliance

Client Portfolio Management

• Manage a portfolio of 15+ clients
• Build client relationships and respond to accounting and VAT queries
• Ensure client deadlines are met

Technical Accounting

• Resolve accounting queries and correct historical errors
• Prepare working papers for financial statements
• Apply IFRS for SMEs where applicable

General

• Maintain accurate working papers and client records
• Ensure confidentiality and compliance with accounting standards
• Stay up to date with accounting and tax legislation
