About the position
We are looking for a detail-oriented and reliable Bookkeeper to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and supporting the finance department with day-to-day accounting functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Documenting Financial Transactions: responsible for accurately recording all financial transactions, ensuring that details are documented properly for future reference.
- Managing Accounts Payable and Receivable: monitor and manage both accounts payable (money owed by the business) and accounts receivable (money owed to the business), ensuring timely payments and collections.
- Processing Payroll: handle payroll processing, which includes tracking employee hours, calculating wages, and ensuring that payroll taxes are withheld and paid on time.
- Preparing Financial Reports: prepare various financial reports and statements, such as balance sheets and income statements, to provide insights into the financial health of the business.
- Reconciling Accounts: regularly reconcile bank statements and company accounts to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
- Assisting with Tax Filing: assist in preparing and filing tax returns, ensuring compliance with tax regulations and deadlines.
- Fact-Checking Accounting Data: Ensuring the accuracy of financial data is crucial and regularly perform checks to verify that all entries are correct.
- Organizing Accounting Tasks: They may also be responsible for organizing various accounting tasks and ensuring that all financial records are maintained systematically
Skills & Competencies Basic accounting knowledge
- Understanding accounting accrual system
- Data entry skills
- High attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Produce work with a high level of accuracy
- Professionalism and organization skills
- Knowledge of XERO, PASTEL or other applications
- Self-starter
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
Qualifications & Experience
- Matric (Grade 12) required.
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 3-5 years experience in a similar role
- Strong interpersonal / communication skills
- Proven experience in general ledger to trial balance
- Strong analytical skills and numerical skills
- Proven experience in the preparation, reconciliation and submission of VAT returns
- Solid understanding and application of VAT legislation
- Must be digitally confident i.e. proficient in one or more accounting software packages
