About the position

Main purpose of the job:

  • To administer and maintain the Electronic Discharge systems (ED and R-ED), REDCap, and the Wits Biomedical Informatics website. Run regular SQL queries on the database systems
  • Provide support and project administration for REDCap and related projects
Location:

  • Parktown – Johannesburg
Key performance areas:

  • To administer and maintain the Electronic Discharge systems (ED and R-ED), REDCap and the Wits Biomedical Informatics website
  • Run regular SQL queries on the database systems
  • Provide support and project administration for REDCap and related projects
  • Regularly update WitsBITS website content, including text and images to ensure accuracy and relevance
  • Monitor website performance and perform routine maintenance to ensure website stability and security
  • Implement and monitor web analytics tools to track key performance metrics and identify areas for improvement
  • Monitor support requests via the divisional ticketing system, resolve them or escalate them to the correct agent
  • Provide level 1 to 3 end-user support
  • Perform routine account creation for staff and students
  • Perform routine account creation for external accounts requiring sponsorship
  • Monitor and provide regular reports on support services and ticket metrics
  • Monitor user account activity and compile reports
  • Consult in person or online with end-users
  • Assist end-users with project builds
  • Assist in training workshops
  • Other administrative or technical support as determined by a support team lead
Required minimum education and training:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT/Computer or Health Sciences
Required work experience:

  • 2-3 years experience in a Health Informatics system support setting required
Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

  • Proficient in database management with MS SQL, including data querying, manipulation, optimization, and presentation
  • Demonstrated experience in developing web applications using ASP.NET, including front-end and back-end development
  • Familiarity with JavaScript for enhancing user interactivity in web applications
  • Experience in optimizing ASP.NET applications for performance and scalability
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git/GitHub for collaborative development projects
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • High level of initiative, as well as a professional demeanor when it comes to end-user support
  • Pays careful attention to detail in both coding practices and data management tasks
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to learning new technologies and frameworks
