About the position
Exciting opportunity to join our Client in the engineering industry for a BIM Technician (Draughtsperson) based in Cape Town.
They are looking for a skilled computer-aided design (CAD) drafter proficient in AutoCAD and Revit (Architectural and MEP) to generate 3D models and drawings of water and wastewater treatment infrastructure for our clients. You will work with our engineers and convert designs into technical plans.
In this role, you will be required to meet with engineers and other stakeholders to discuss design concepts for CAD models, develop designs, and generate 3D software models.
To ensure success as a CAD Drafter, you should have extensive experience working with AutoCAD and Revit software, advanced modelling skills, and a keen eye for detail. You will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of our technical plans with regulations and quality standards. Ultimately, as a top-class CAD drafter, you must be able to create high-level design models and drawings that meet CAD best practices and client specifications with minimal guidance from an engineer. Responsibilities
- Liaise with engineers to gather building/process and structural requirements and designs
- Create detailed models and drawings with computer-aided design (CAD) software AutoCAD and Revit
- Setup CAD standards and workflow procedures
- 3D building infrastructure modelling (BIM)
- 3D modelling of mechanical water and wastewater components (pipework, pumps, etc.)
- Create site layouts, process and instrumentation diagrams, diagrams, and drawings
- Ensure final designs comply with regulations and quality standards
Requirements:
- A tertiary qualification in computer-aided design, modelling and drafting from a reputable institution
- Minimum 5 years relevant work experience as an AutoCAD drafter.
- Extensive working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit (Architectual and MEP)
- An understanding of BIM to be able to create and manage data from models
- Ability to analyse design sketches and specifications to create technical drawings
- Strong attention to detail to ensure drawings are accurate according to specifications
- Communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with engineers and other professionals
- Time management skills to work with multiple projects and competing deadlines
- Knowledge of engineering practices, safety standards and CAD standards
- A keen eye for aesthetics and detail
- Advanced mathematical skills
- A passion for the built environment, especially water and wastewater treatment
- Skills in other AutoDesk software such as Civil 3D, Inventor, etc. is beneficial.
- Willingness to gain new knowledge and develop skills in the implementation of BIM and other modelling platforms
